A Simple Protocol for Diagnosing Motivation
You know, if you’re struggling with motivation right now to get something off your to do list, I get it.
You know, motivation can be a complex issue. Sometimes it’s easy to get excited and energetic about some things, and sometimes not so much.
But what I recommend that you do is deconstruct in some detail to better understand if the issue is really more physical, emotional, mental, or maybe a combination of all three.
If it’s physical, you’ve got to start looking at are you sleeping well? Are you hydrated enough? Are you getting enough rest? Are you taking enough time off to be able to feel refreshed to tackle the problem when you have the most energy?
If it’s more emotional, then it’s looking back in depth at some of your fears. Are you afraid of embarrassment or afraid of failure with the particular task? Or is it something that just makes you uncomfortable whenever you do it?
And then really having to reframe some of those fears, or ask if the fears are really like to really happen.

And then third, is just the mindset issue. It’s just are you not feeling like you have the skills or knowledge or expertise that would make you confident to go do the task?
Or maybe it’s something that you do all the time, and you just find it boring.
But if it is a mental issue, then you’re gonna have to find ways to reframe the task in your mind so that again, at least it’s bearable.
Or else you go out and get the right tools or resources or skills if you feel like that’s what’s holding your back.
But you have to first look at this in some detail.
Decide whether the issue is again, more physical, mental, or emotional, or a combination, and start from that premise if you’re really going to move the needle forward.
