The Habit That Boosts Your Achievement

TRANSCRIPT

Now, one of the things that all successful people know, but they don’t always talk about, is this concept of delayed gratification.

Now, that may sound pretty straightforward.

It’s just this idea that you’re postponing some short-term pleasure or short-term gain in the service of the greater good, for whatever big audacious dream or goal that you have.

But it bears reminding here, because I think sometimes people just feel like these most successful people, they’ve just had it easy.

And they’ve just, you know, blasted through every short obstacle and they’ve gotten where they wanted to go.

Well, no, there usually is some sort of sacrifice that’s been involved there.  Sometimes BIG sacrifices.  Sometimes the bigger the goal, the bigger the sacrifice.

But just remember that that’s part of the game. That’s part of the process.

And if you keep that in mind and you know that those sacrifices aren’t going to be forever.

That you will be able to get that gratification later.

But you’ve got to have the discipline in the middle of the struggle, in the middle of your journey to that goal, to be, you know, disciplined in avoiding those short-term gratifications, if necessary, in the service of the goal.
